We are pleased to introduce online ticket booking for the international railway route from Nanning to Hanoi with two travel options: night-time by direct sleeper train or daytime combining local trains.
From Nanning to Hanoi by direct sleeper train
The T8701/MR2 jointly operated by China Railway and Vietnam Railways is a sleeper train service connecting Nanning to Hanoi overnight across the border. This is a direct train that consists of two sectors: the T8701 runs through Chinese territory from Nanning to Pingxiang and the MR2 runs through Vietnam territory from Dong Dang to Hanoi.
To carry out this journey, passengers will board the train T8701/MR2 at Nanning Railway Station at 18:05 PM.
The train T8701/MR2 transports 5 carriages with Soft bed 4x compartments accommodating 1-4 passengers.
The train arrives to Pingxiang in Guangxi province at 22:10 PM. Passengers must get off and complete the immigration exit procedures at the Chinese border in Pingxiang Railway Station. At 23:41 PM the train departs from Pingxiang in China and arrives at 00:22 AM to Dong Dang in Vietnam. At this point, the time has to be adjusted to 23:22 PM, as there is -1 hour difference between Vietnam and China.
Once in Dong Dang, passengers must get off the train and complete the immigration entry procedures at the Vietnamese border in Dong Dang Railway Station.
Travellers bound to Vietnam on the direct train from Nanning to Hanoi are required visa exemption or stamped visa. E-visa and visa on-arrival are not accepted at the rail border crossing.
After entering Vietnam passengers will board the train, which departs from Dong Dang in Lang Son province at 01:55 AM and arrives to Gia Lam Railway Station in Hanoi at 05:30 AM.
From Nanning to Hanoi combining two local trains
The alternative to the direct sleeper train requires combining two local trains: the 5517 train operated by China Railway connecting Nanning to Pingxiang and the DD6 train operated by Vietnam Railways connecting Dong Dang to Hanoi, clearing immigration at Huu Nghi–Youyi Guan international border gate between China and Vietnam, also known as the Friendship Pass.
To carry out this journey, passengers will board the 5517 train at Nanning Railway Station at 08:09 AM.
The train arrives to Pingxiang in Guangxi province at 12:34 PM. Passengers must get off, exit the railway station and reach Huu Nghi–Youyi Guan international border gate, which is located at 16 km distance from Pingxiang. Here at the border gate, travellers can complete the immigration exit procedures for China as well as the immigration entry procedures for Vietnam.
While crossing the border the time has to be adjusted, as there is -1 hour difference between Vietnam and China.
After entering Vietnam, passengers will need to reach Dong Dang Railway Station, which is located at 3 km distance from Huu Nghi border gate in Lang Son province.
