JR operates the Tokaido Shinkansen high-speed train between Osaka and Tokyo stopping in Kyoto.

There are three types of services on the Tokaido Shinkansen: Nozomi is the fast service stopping only at key stations, Hikari is the semi-fast service stopping at the major stations and Kodama is the local service stopping at all stations.
