The travel distance from Hue to Phong Nha is 215 km. There is no flight between Hue and Phong Nha, so you have two options to travel from Hue to Phong Nha: taking a train or a bus.

How long does it take to get from Hue to Phong Nha?

It takes 4-5 hours to get from Hue to Phong Nha by train or by bus. The train will stop at Dong Hoi Railway Station, and from there you can go to Phong Nha by public bus or taxi, which takes 1 hour 30 minutes more.

Depending on the traffic, sometimes the bus arrives 30 minutes earlier or later than scheduled. The train usually departs and arrives on time.

There is one type of train service running the route Hue to Dong Hoi that is managed by Vietnam Railways.

Trains on the North–South railway line depart from Hue Railway Station, located at 01 Bui Thi Xuan, Phuong Duc Ward, Hue.

Please arrive to the station 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time to complete the boarding procedures or risk missing the train.

Where do trains from Hue to Phong Nha arrive?

Trains on the North–South railway line arrive at Dong Hoi Railway Station located at Tieu Khu 4, Nam Ly Ward, Dong Hoi. From here you need to take a bus or taxi to Phong Nha which takes another 1 hour 30 minutes.

There is only one type of bus running the route Hue to Phong Nha.

Where do buses from Hue to Phong Nha depart?

Most buses from Hue to Phong Nha depart from the representative offices of the bus companies in Hue.

Please arrive to the point of departure at least 60 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Note that some bus companies will organize the transfer of passengers from the point of departure to the bus terminal by shuttle bus, therefore customers must show up in advance or risk missing the bus.

Where do buses from Hue to Phong Nha arrive?

Most buses from Hue to Phong Nha arrive at the representative offices of the bus companies in Phong Nha and Bo Trach District, Quang Binh.

From Phong Nha, you can go to Ninh Binh or Hanoi by train or bus and continue traveling to other destinations in Northern Vietnam, such as Ha Long, Cat Ba, Ha Giang, Sapa, Mu Cang Chai, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Mai Chau and Moc Chau.
