Excellent 25 May 2026

First class 6 beds sleeper car as stated during booking, 1 power socket in the compartiment, 1 USB-A socket per bed, AC, clean but small restrooms at the bigining of the trip, less so the next morning, train on time, we managed to put 5 big suitcases and 6 cabin size luggages in the compartment, Great view, the 3 food trolleys are not a decent option to get food and drinks. More fun and less time consuming than the bus for the Ninh Binh - Da Nang trip. Tickets and barcode provided by Baolau fully approoved by VNR. Tristan

Excellent 15 May 2026

Philippe

In their own book says they have temperature control for comfort, that’s not true, at night is freezing. They move people to our cabin and charged fee for that. Mauricio

Good 11 May 2026

We really enjoyed the experience but for us as westerners the mattresses are SOOOOOO hard. Maybe softer mattresses? Also a shame there are no daytime sleepers to Sapa. Overall a good experience. Toilets very clean. Jeremy

Poor 10 May 2026

The staff was great, but the train ride itself was horrible. So noisy and not very smooth. And then at the very end of the trip, they were blasting music so loud I cannot even hear myself speaking. I purchased the VIP seats. They were OK. Nothing special. I will probably take the bus on my way back where it is more quiet and comfortable? Lam

Satisfactory 24 April 2026

Train more or less on time. Room for bags. Toilets on board ok. Aircon virtually non existent which made for a very hot 6 hours. David

Poor 23 April 2026

I have been riding Viet Nam trains since 1990, so I wish I could say that there has been marked improvements in the comfort of the rolling stock over that time, but I'm really sorry to report that the current condition of many of the "soft seat, air-con" cars is very poor (Trips: Hanoi to Vinh and Da Nang to Nha Trang). Broken seats, air-con that goes off and on over the course of an 10 hour trip, and an audio system that either blasts information at high volume or at a level that is barely audible. On the positive side, there does appear to be efforts to improve the quality of the train in the sleeper cabin sections (Trip: Vinh to Da Nang), and the train staff are overall very friendly and helpful, but I can't recommend a long train trip unless you book a cabin. The VNR does offer pricier cars aimed at the tourist market. These seem to be well-booked when I travel in Viet Nam, so there is a market, but not one that is designed to include local Vietnamese. So, if you are young and hear Paul

Good 23 April 2026

The carriage with premium soft seats was very clean and comfortable although the toilets could have been cleaned more during our 8 hour journey. And the seats could be turned for direction of travel which was great. Karen
